Former Nottingham primary school teacher jailed for sexual abuse of pupils in the 1980s
December 7, 2021

A retired primary school teacher who abused his position of trust in order to repeatedly abuse two pupils decades ago has been jailed.

Pensioner, Roger Thorne, aged 75, committed the offences at Scotholme Primary School in Hyson Green, Nottingham, over a five year period in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

His victims both recounted similar episodes where Thorne would contrive a reason to get them on their own before sexually abusing them.

One of them told police how Thorne would keep her in class during assembly before taking her to a curtained reading corner and abusing her.

Thorne, who was convicted in 2005 of nine sexual offences committed at another school in Nottingham, was accused of four counts of indecent assault.

Each count related to multiple incidents of assaults against each girl.

Thorne, formerly of Sturgeon Avenue, Clifton, denied the allegations but was convicted by a jury on both counts earlier this month.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court he was sentenced to five-and-a-half years in jail.
